I just got a kitten and she looks at me with one eye closed, what could be wrong?

I know that she has just a bit of an infection in her eye it is not serious so i want to treat it myself before taking her to the vet. What can you suggest...I just got a kitten and she looks at me with one eye closed, what could be wrong?
maybe she's doing the joey thing and saying: how you doing?I just got a kitten and she looks at me with one eye closed, what could be wrong?
There isn't anything over the counter that you can buy to treat an eye infection in a kitten, so don't try to do that. You risk making it much worse. It needs antibiotics designed for kittens/cats. Take it to the vet.

To add: To Haley: A kitten isn't going to die from a minor eye infection. You make it sound as if the kitten is going to die in 2 seconds if it doesn't get to the vet Sheesh.

To Tooler: I must have missed the part where I said a cat can't die from distemper. What I said was that a cat won't die from a simple eye infection. I never said don't take it to the vet, or anything of the sort. I've worked with animals for 8 years, and I know what distemper is and what it can do to an animal. Read my answer, and address my answer, you've every right to do that. But don't put words in my mouth.
And just how do you plan on treating the infection on your own?? Quit bein cheap and take the cat to a vet if you really care about it---WTF..............
It is probably a viral conjunctivitis and not something you can treat yourself. It's usually accompanied by sneezing or nasal congestion and that could be more serious. NO human medications you have should ever be used on a cat or kitten without permission from a vet. No eye drops or contact lens solution. Have I made my point?

A new kitten always needs a trip to the vet. So make an appointment as soon as you can. Tomorrow, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc. Every kitten needs to be wormed and started on her series of kitten shots. Since you will be going in very soon with her the vet will address the question of the eye problem too.

They are darling little bundles of joy and they need their special doctor just as a baby does.
MAN U SHOULD JUST TAKE IT TO DA VET IF U REALY LOVE DA CAT CAUSE IT COULD HAVE A SEROUS PROUBLEM WITH DA EYE
take her to the vet ASAP!!!!! you CAN'T treat it yourself because you AREN'T a licensed vet lady!!!!!!!!!

DUH!!

If you had an eye infection I bet that you wouldn't think twice about going to the doctor right away!!

DON'T be cheap!!! you want the companionship of an animal but DON'T want to live up to the RESPONSIBLILITY of taking care of her!!!!!

ex. taking her to the vet when she becomes sick!!
To andry713:

What Haley says should not be taken lightly. Distemper is the leading cause of death among Cats and Dogs under a year old. The virus infects the eyes and nose first.. the animal appears to have a harmless cold. If not caught early, the virus quickly spreads to the brain.. causing paralysis and certain death.

It's a kitten.. it was given to her.. the eye is closed due to dried-up discharge... those are prime conditions to be concerned over. This is a devastating disease that easily transmits itself from animal to animal. If she really loves the kitten she will make sure that it receives the ';mandatory'; shots necessary for protection. Without them, it's highly unlikely that the kitten will make it past her first year.

Tooler
Is she packing a shooter on her hip and smoking a joint?
Your kitten needs a thorough checkup by the vet, who can prescribe a good treatment. If you adopted this kitten from a shelter, she may have picked up an infection there. If you have other cats, keep her separate until she has been treated.
if it is an eye infection she will need antibiotics and you need to get those from your vet.
u shouldn't treat it ur self because i know someone and they tried to treat it by themslves and she died u need to take her to the vet NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if u want her to live
