What does it mean when someone has a vacant look in their eyes?

They are seriously thinking about something or are very bored with the conversation around them. I used to do this alot.What does it mean when someone has a vacant look in their eyes?
as other people have said, they're thinking about something else, stunned, tired, on drugs, etc. what also happens to me, though, is that my eyes will get comfortable in a certain spot and i just space out and stare at that spot for a while, lol

The lights are on but no one is home. They're lost in thought or lost in sadness, They're there but they're not there, their mind is elsewhere. For me, it's often from depression.
They could be seriously traumatised and have numbed their emotions,

It depends on the situation.





They may have gotten hurt and are stunned.





They may not be paying attention to what you're saying to them.





They could be high.
They are either on something (drugs), don't understand what is going on around them, or are mentally disconnected.
